Jake Plummer
Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer wore a No. 40 decal on the back of his helmet since the 2004 training camp that honored former Arizona teammate Pat Tillman. Tillman, the U.S. Army Ranger and former Cardinal safety, was killed in action in April 2004. NFL policy prohibits personal messages on uniforms or helmets. According to Plummer, the NFL warned him of a $20,000 fine if he wore the decal at Tampa Bay on 10/03/2004 and that it would trigger a $10,000 fine because of the previous week\'s game against San Diego (09/26/2004). Plummer removed the sticker and received no fine. The NFL agreed to let Plummer tape public-service announcements honoring Tillman and play them in stadiums nationwide on the weekend after Veteran\'s Day. The NFL donated $250,000 to build the first USO facility in Afghanistan as well, which was to be named after Tillman.
